Hope Bridge helped to launch Korea’s donation culture, and has helped a culture of sharing to take root in Korea since 1961, to give aid to our neighbors who are victims of disasters.

  • 1961 - Organized the Korea Flood Damage Response Committee, Launched the Korea Disaster Response Committee
  • 1964 - Changed name to the Korea Disaster Response Association
  • 1966 - Began Community Chest campaign, sold 5 million in first year
  • 1967 - Designated July as the ‘Disaster Relief Month’
  • 1977 - Passed on more than 1 million relief goods for the Iri Station explosion incident
  • 1981 - Donated 7.5 billion won to region hit by typhoon ‘Agnes’
  • 1987 - Donated 31.5 billion won to region hit by typhoon ‘Thelma’
  • 1989 - Donated 14.7 billion won to areas hit by typhoons and heavy rainfall
  • 1990 - Donated 32 billion won to the central area hit by heavy rainfall
  • 1991 - Donated 15.3 billion won to region hit by typhoon ‘Gladys’
  • 1993 - Donated 20 billion won to regions with cold weather damage
  • 1996 - Donated 31.7 billion won to areas with flood damage
  • 1998 - Donated 67.4 billion won to the Seoul and Gyeonggi regions hit by heavy rainfall and regions damaged by typhoon ‘Yanni’
  • 1999 - Donated 41.9 billion won to areas in Gyeonggi hit by heavy rainfall
  • 2001 - Donated 28 billion won to areas hit by heavy rainfall
  • Became legal relief institute with the revision of the Disaster Relief Act
  • 2002 - Donated 129.9 billion won to region hit by typhoon ‘Rusa’
  • Changed name to the Korea Disaster Relief Association
  • 2003 - Donated 104.8 billion won to region hit by typhoon ‘Maemi’
  • Donated 67 billion won to victims of the Daegu subway tragedy
  • 2005 - Donated 11.8 billion won to the Yangyang, Gangwon-do area hit by mountain fires and to the region hit by typhoon ‘Nabi’
  • 2006 - Became supervising institute for distribution of donations through the revision of the Disaster Relief Act
  • 2007 - Donated 32.9 billion won to areas hit by typhoon ‘Nari’ and the oil spill in the west coast
  • 2008 - Donated 4.4 billion won to areas with oil spills in the west coast and regions hit by heavy rainfall
  • 2009 - Donated 8.8 billion won to areas hit by strong winds and heavy rainfall
  • 2010 - Donated 37 billion won to areas hit by typhoon ‘Kompasu’ and heavy rainfall
  • 2011 - Donated 3.7 billion won the Yeonpyeong-do area that was hit by bombs
  • Donated 41 billion won to areas hit by typhoon ‘Muifa’ and heavy rainfall
  • 2012 - Donated 23 billion won to areas hit by typhoons ‘Bolaven,’ Tembin’ and ‘Sanba’
